Par Tee Golf News By Peg Ansbro

Peg Ansbro and Eileen Watson were named the winners of the Emily Basher Golf Tournament. Peg Ansbro and Eileen Watson were named the winners of the Emily Basher Golf Tournament. The exchange between Churchill and Lady Astor: She said, “If you were my husband I’d give you poison.” He said, “If you were my wife, I’d drink it.” And so we did drink and drink at Russo’s on the Bay and had a wonderful time thanks to the efforts of Jane Donnelly Higgins and Valerie Phillips-Jablons. The food was delicious, the service impeccable, the ambiance beautiful and the gifts at each table were perfect and so well received. Well done, ladies!

Eileen Watson, once again, proved she is a master emcee … not only her joke telling but her expertise at the microphone were awesome! The planning, coordination and execution of all the awards was fabulous. The individual approach to awarding the winners made each person feel so special. No wonder we all had a great time!

And I shall end this year’s column with a golfer’s prayer: Almighty God, as we play through our 18 holes of life, we pray that you will give us a drive that’s both long enough to reach our goals, and yet straight enough to keep us out of trouble. Help us avoid the traps and hazards of life; nevertheless, should we find ourselves in them, give us the tools, skills and desire to escape them with no penalty. May we always stay in bounds. Help us to be willing to stand by – and not play through—those in genuine need. May we always play with honor.

And finally, when we’ve putted out on the 18th green, we pray that we will have demonstrated the integrity of our character, so that you will judge us worthy enough to join your threesome and play eternally on your heavenly course. Amen.

God bless everyone and have a safe, happy and healthy year!!
