BCAC Peanut Shamrocks Tie With Bethpage

The 2012 BCAC Peanut Shamrocks battled to the very end in an 18-18 tie against the Bethpage Eagles. The Shamrocks opened the game on defense featuring the line of Casey Allen, Mike Borhi, Dean Esposito, Frankie Sinisgalli, Logan Kalisak, Joseph Parsley, Tommy Martin and Mike Kelly. They played tough versus a good Eagle offensive line.

BCAC linebackers James Ferchland, James Arena, Lukas Weiss, Matty Martin, Joseph Esposito and safety Matt Stack were ready for the Eagles offense. The Shamrock defense was tough in the first series but the Eagles scored to take an early 6-0 lead. The Shamrock offense stormed the field to even the score, led by their linemen – Sinisgalli, Joseph Esposito, center Sean Mitzkavetch, Stack, and M. Martin.

Quarterback Logan Hilgendorf handed off to Lukas Weiss with FB Hayden Malsy leading the way for 5 yards, Stack and Sinisgalli moved the ball to the Eagle 15-yard line. Joseph Esposito took the next handoff behind excellent blocking by Mitzkavetch for a 15-yard touchdown, to tie the game at 6-6. The Shamrock defense made some great stops led by Sinisgalli, Borhi, Stack and M. Martin but the Eagles were too tough and scored to take a 12-6 lead into halftime.

The Shamrock offense opened up the second half, Lukas Weiss scored on a 30-yard touchdown right through the heart of the Eagle defense to tie the score 12-12.

Weiss, Stack and M. Martin made key tackles forcing a Bethpage turnover on downs. Stack (55 yards rushing) was stopped twice going up the middle but didn’t give up as he ran 40 yards for a touchdown and an 18-12 lead. The Eagles offense was ready to answer and the Shamrock defense was ready. Weiss, James Arena, Casey Allen, Martin (4 tackles), Sinisgalli (3 tackles), J. Esposito, Stack (4 tackles) and Borhi (3 tackles) all made key tackles holding the Eagles to a fourth down on the Shamrock 5-yard line but the Eagles scored to tie the game 18-18 with less than a minute remaining.

Weiss led all defenders with 6 tackles. The Shamrock offense turned to Matty Martin (36 yards rushing), who ran twice but came up 10 yards short of the goal line as time expired. The Peanut Shamrocks are 1-0-1 and played another great game all around. Coaches and parents are very proud. The Shamrocks missed Aidan Leary and Jeremiah O’Shea who couldn’t make the game. Their next game is Sunday, September 23, 9:30 a.m. at Wantagh. Please come out and support the team.
