A Few Comments

Dear Editor,

1. The cover photo, attributed to Joe Mure, depicts a tornado “coming off the ocean.“ In fact the photo faces north toward Brooklyn after the storm passed over Breezy. There are no moored boats in the ocean south of Breezy and the closest land south of Breezy is the Bahamas.

2. Page 9 shows a sign on the closed Wendy’s. Not only do we not need any more banks (or nail salons) but Rockaway, as NYC’s premier waterfront community, needs more water access sites like restaurants, marinas, etc. Where are our elected officials, Community Board, Chamber of Commerce, etc? Have they deserted us?

3. Joan Mettler wrote a column about summer parking restrictions. I have lived in “upper Rockaway Park” or “lower Belle Harbor” (depending upon which real estate agent you talk to) since 1954. Either way restricted summer parking on bay blocks makes no sense and is an inconvenience for residents. Beach blocks are a totally different story – I understand and agree with parking restrictions there.

4. “The Wave” has always been a local Rockaway weekly newspaper. As such, commentary, letters and articles about national political issues are out of place. I urge the staff of “The Wave” to concentrate on what they do best – that is information for and responses from residents. Leave the political commentary to the national media.
