Health & Harmony
September is a time of change that, for me, is very emotionally evocative. The change in energy is palpable. One can feel the shift in energy as the light changes in its nature. The days become shorter, the wind increases and the air becomes cooler.
Energetically speaking, my emotions are stirred to feelings of new beginnings and motivation. Inspired action brings memories of a new school year, new pencils, new goals, new challenges. I am reminded of past conquests as well as past failures, achievements not real-ized, relationships that didn’t work out, the path not taken. One spiritual tradition that coincides with this season is that of Rosh Hashana. The custom of this wisdom tradition of Judaism is to take 10 days as a time of introspection. This time is meant for reflection upon your life and the “deeds” that you committed during the year. It is a time for reconciliation with those whom you may have offended, righting those wrongs as far as possible. At the minimum, it is a time for you to be honest with yourself about the nature of your personal failings and to re-solve to do better in the new year.
We do know that forgiveness is integral to all wisdom traditions. We also know that research shows that for-giveness is paramount in preventing and recovering from heart disease. As autumn approaches, statistics reveal an increase in heart attacks and heart related incidents. The heart, the reservoir of Love, is the ultimate purveyor of awe. That overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, joy that we call Love is awesome. It is compelling. Awe humbles us in its Presence. Awe inspires us to become all that we can be and do in order to sustain that feeling. It is the most powerful drive in the Universe.
I am in awe that there is a holiday that celebrates the awesomeness of Life. The creation of the world is recounted during the days of this holiday and with that remembrance, we are charged to create our own lives consistent with the Creator. That would mean to create your life according to the highest ideals, principles and values. There is an awesome feeling that we generate when we do the right thing. For our-selves and for our family, friends, neighbors, our tribe.
We do get a chance to “fix” things, events, words spoken. We always can make the opportunity to do better, to ask for forgiveness if we have missed the mark somewhere along our path. Acts of consciousness such as these are healing. Healing takes place on all levels of mind/body/spirit. Often, healing of physical ailments is begun by conscious awareness of where we may have gone wrong in our choices. These choices may be in diet, lifestyle, or relationship matters.
We can create awesome health by choosing the thoughts with which we wish to fill our mind. Thoughts be-come actions. Practiced thoughts become beliefs. It is incumbent upon us to consciously choose thoughts that will create an awesome life, one that is profound in the abundance of peace and prosperity that it gener-ates. Let us take a lesson from this one spiritual tradition and create our own Ten Days of Awe. Practice one each day according to your own Life’s purpose.
My Ten Days of Awe will have these ten elements
All infused with a daily dose of Love!
May The Blessings Be!
