Peanut Shamrocks Start Season With Road Win
The BCAC Peanut Shamrocks opened up the 2012 football season on the road with a 24-6 win over West Hempstead. The BCAC offense started first with excellent blocking by offensive linemen Sean Mitzkavetch, Frankie Sinisgalli, Hayden Malsy, Joseph Esposito, Logan Hilgendorf and Matt Stack.
Aidan Leary opened the game at quarterback and handed off to Lukas Weiss (20 yards rushing) for 5 yards. Weiss and Matt Stack had a few more runs to bring the ball to the 6-yard line. Hayden Malsy moved to QB and handed off to AidanLearyfora6yardTDanda6-0Shamrocklead.TheShamrockdefensestormedthefieldwiththedefensiveline of Sinisgalli, Casey Allen, Dean Esposito, Hilgendorf, Logan Kalisak, Jeremiah O’Shea and Joseph Parsley. The team also featured linebackers James Arena, James Ferchland, Weiss and safety Matt Stack. Ferchland, Weiss, Arena, Hilgendorf and Sinisgalli, who all recorded tackles in the West Hempstead opening drive forcing a turnover on downs.
The offense turned to Joseph Esposito, who ran 15 yards to the Bronco 25-yard line. On the next play, the offense ran a fake 23-47 dive in which Esposito faked out the Bronco defense and Matt Stack (52 yards rushing) took the delay for a 20-yard touchdown and a Shamrock 12-0 lead. The Shamrock defense forced another turnover on downs, Sinisgalli, Hilgendorf, Arena and Stack made key tackles on the stop sending the game into halftime.
The Shamrock defense opened up the third quarter, Leary, Allen, D. Esposito, Kalisak and Parsley each played tough, by forcing a fourth down but the Bronco running back made a nice cut and scored to cut the Shamrock lead 12-6. Joseph Esposito (83 yards rushing) scored on a 15-yard touchdown to increase the lead 18-6. The Shamrock defense knew they needed to make a stop. Ferchland, Mitzkavetch and Sinisgalli made some big tackles; Frankie Sinisgalli led all defenders with 9 tackles.
The offense capped off the day, calling Sinisgalli’s (15-yards rushing) number for a 5-yard touchdown run and securing a Shamrock opening day win. Coaches and parents are extremely proud of all their players. They played as a team and will continue to learn and improve. The Peanuts missed Mike Borhi, Matty Martin and Tommy Martin who were unable to attend but will be there for the Peanut Shamrock’s next game on Sunday, September 16, 10 a.m. at BCAC Memorial Field vs. Bethpage Eagles.
