Fisheads Come Up Short Against Montauk Rugby
Last Saturday was a beautiful rugby day on the “other end.“ Montauk hosted the Fisheads in a rematch on last years most anticipated game. This year, both teams are predicted to be the favorites to make the 2012 playoff rounds.
It started off with a speech from Coach McConnell and a riddle from longtime president, Bob Johnson. The coach’s speech was inspiring but the president’s riddle had everyone scratching their heads. You be the judge ... A rugby player went to the doctor one day and said: “I’ve just been playing Rugby and when I got back I found that when I touched my legs, my arms, my head, my ass and everywhere else, it really hurts.” So the doctor said: “You’ve broken your finger.”
The game was hard fought with the Fisheads leading 10-7 at halftime. Kiwis sensations, Ray and Dave took control in the first half with excellent ball skills and tackling. In the second half, the Montauk Backs broke through for two more tries. Kiwi Ray drove the ball between the posts for a try and Kiwi Dave hit a 40-meter penalty kick and a conversion. Montauk won by the final score of 21-10.
If you missed the game, the rematch of Rockaway vs. Montauk takes place on October 6 at Fort Tilden and it should be exciting. For now, the Fisheads will play Bayonne Home this weekend, come support the new Fisheads on Saturday!
