Peninsula Shootings Continue
Despite holding rallies and what city officials called a successful gun buyback program last month, the rash of shootings along the Rockaway Peninsula this year continued late last week, marking the 16th such incident.
The latest shooting occurred last Sunday, September 2, at approximately 11:09 p.m. when a 28-year-old man was shot inside a fifth floor hallway of Ocean Bay Apartments located at 411 Beach 54 Street. The man was shot once in each leg. According to police, the injuries weren’t life threatening. The unidentified victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital by FDNY EMS.
The 101 Precinct Detective Squad says they are investigating. The shooting comes less than a week after a 44- year-old man was shot once in his right shoulder in front of 249 Beach 15 Street. He was treated and released at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital.
