RWA And RBSC Host Art Exhibit

Rockaway Waterfront Alliance and Rockaway Beach Surf Club hosted an art exhibit last week entitled “Washed Ashore” to raise awareness of the issues surrounding shoreline pollution.

Students from the RWA summer program collaborated with artists from the Rockaway Beach Surf Club to create seven large scale murals from trash collected over the summer. The final pieces were all bright and colorful, made entirely of bags, plastic bottles and other debris collected from the Rockaway shore.

The crowd who viewed the show was taken by the creative nature and beauty of the final pieces.

Also exhibited at the show was the documentary created by Reelworks Teen Films showcasing the work behind the scenes of the project itself. Students, family members and local residents all came to see the work and celebrate the end of the RWA summer program.

Later in the year the show will be remounted at the Queens Museum of Art for the public to view.

RWA acknowledges the work of all the artists and students who took part in the project including Keneisha Turner. Shelley Berlincourt, Mark Hoffacker and Michelle Cashen of RWA, Clare Hilger, Beth Perkins, Bridget Klapinski, Emily McNeil, Katherine Moriwaki, Keone Singleheart, Jessica Uzzan, Kathryn Caporuscio, Lois Pyanowski, Brady Walsh, Brandon D’Leo and Ica Morales of Rockaway Beach Surf Club, Stacy Lockheart and Renzo Buffalo Spirit of Marina 59/SUP NYC.
