Park Filled, But Weather Puts Damper On Final Beach Day

At the new Far Rockaway East Park on Seagirt Boulevard families and friends celebrated Labor Day – the unofficial last day of summer – with barbecues, music and fun. But on the sand, this season ended as nearly a carbon copy of last year – with overcast skies, threats of rain and almost empty beaches. As 6 p.m. and the end of the beach season loomed, lifeguards sat watch over a few diehards and fishermen on the otherwise deserted beaches as they prepared to blow the final whistle to end the 2012 beach season.

Picnics and barbecues were the order of the day on Labor Day. Picnics and barbecues were the order of the day on Labor Day.
