Bungalow Bar Holds Teacher Reunion

A reunion of Rockaway public school graduates was held on Saturday, September 1 at the Bungalow Bar in Rockaway Beach, hosted by proprietors Patrick and Dee Tubridy. At the event, organized by Beach Channel High School alumna Jennifer Blair, awards from New York City Councilmember James Sanders Jr. were presented to six teachers and administrators of peninsula schools – some in current service, some retired. Honorees included: Gary Hawrylko, who taught at PS 183 for 24 years; Dr. Brenda Williams-Jackson, principal of Uniondale’s Cornelius Court Alternative School (formerly at PS 183); Frank Davis, retired Beach Channel High School Social Studies teacher; Rhia Warren, retired principal of JHS/MS 226 in South Ozone Park (formerly at PS 183); Janet Rodman, retired teacher of JHS 180 and IS 53; and Laurie Shapiro, principal, PS/MS 105.
