Busted For Spraying Shots
A gunman who had earlier been involved in an argument sprayed the street outside his building with shots from a pistol, police say. Jonny Drayton, 40, of 14-74 Beach Channel Drive, was allegedly standing in front of his building at about 6 p.m. on August 18 with a handgun tucked into his waistband.
A local woman, who asked not to be identified for fear of retribution, said that she saw a number of people in front of the building argue with Drayton and push him into the building. A short time later, she says, Drayton stuck his head out of the window of apartment 6D, thrust a gun out of the window and began shooting.
As soon as Drayton started winging shots, she said, the group in front of the building scattered, including the men who had been arguing earlier with him.
Police detectives quickly got a warrant to enter Drayton’s apartment, where they found 49 bullets for a Remington .380 caliber pistol. They did not find the gun that fit the bullets. Court records supplied by Queens District Attorney Richard Brown show that Drayton was arraigned on August 22, charged with reckless endangerment and possessing pistol ammunition when not authorized to possess a pistol. He remains in jail on $15,000 bail.
