William W. Tufts, Sr.
William W. Tufts, Sr., 87, the father of Rockaway Park resident, Mary Tufts, died August 20.
Tufts was born in Farmington, New Hampshire on October 2, 1924. He was a resident of Hicksville, New York and worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. He served in the United States Army Air Force in WWII, a B-29 crewman assigned to the 20th Air Force, 505th Bomb Group flying in the Pacific. Tufts was also a member of the Air Force Association and former CYO basketball coach.
Tufts was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; parents, William and Dollie; and sisters, Frances and Rosalie.
He is survived by his loving companion, Margaret Mortensen; daughter, Mary Tufts of Rockaway Park; son, William W. Tufts, Jr. (Kathleen) of Canton, Michigan; grandchildren, Christopher and Pamela; as well as an extended family of friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Thomas S. Dalton Funeral Home, Hicksville, New York. Interment took place at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio or the American Indian
