My Letter To Obama

Dear Editor,

My nephew, Lance Corporal Gregory Thomas Buckley, was killed on August 10, 2012 while weightlifting on his own base with three fellow Marines. They were unarmed and ambushed. He did not die as a result of combat, which would have been heartbreaking enough. He died at the hands of a 15-year-old Afghan assassin armed with an automatic rifle we supplied and given the liberty to roam our base ad-lib.

You, Mr. President, are our Commander in-Chief. How could you let this happen? I could understand if it was the first or even second instance, but these “insider attacks” have happened TWENTY-EIGHT times this year, resulting in 39 deaths!

It’s time you step up to the plate and behave like the President of the United States of America should!

You had no problem sending a written apology to Afghan President Hamid Karzai following the burning of 100 Korans by our military as a security measure. It seemed not to matter that those Korans were confiscated from military prisoners and it was believed they carried encrypted messages from or to the Taliban. It seemed not to matter that once the Korans were defiled by these evil insurgents it was no longer the holy book written 1,400 years ago. You bowed to President Karzai and wrote him “expressing regret and apologizing to him and the Afghan people.”

Where is our apology Mr. President? Have you contacted President Karzai and DEMANDED he apologize for the cowardly actions of his officers?

Where is your apology, Mr. Obama, to our Military and to the people of the United States for allowing this to happen ... TWENTY-EIGHT times?

What is the corrective action to ensure this never happens again? Americans want our soldiers home NOW not in 2014.

MARY LIZ GROSSETO

Let's hope that Gregory's senseless death may save some other Marine's lives! This should be printed in every paper in the country. God Bless our Armed Forces, keep them safe, get them out of Afghanistan and God Bless America!
