Stand-Up Paddlers Honor Heroes

FDNY Squad 1 firefighters and the Friends of Tribute Park joined together on Saturday, August 18 for the first annual Stand Up paddling event ever held on the peninsula. Spearheaded by Dennis Farrell, a retired firefighter who served in the Rockaways for 21 years, the event launched in the rain from the boat ramp adjacent to Beach Channel High School and then moved to Tribute Park for a memorial service. Afterwards, the paddlers went to Breezy Point before coming back to Tribute Park for a luncheon. Pictured, paddlers line up at BCHS boat ramp prior to hitting the bay. See more photos, page 26.
