Patrick J. Fitzgerald
Patrick J. Fitzgerald, a longtime Rockaway resident, died August 11.
Fitzgerald was born in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. He lived in Rockaway for 32 years coming from Brooklyn, New York. Fitzgerald served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952. He later went on to own and operate several restaurants and taverns in Brooklyn, New York.
Fitzgerald was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; brothers, John and Gerald; sisters, Mary Cahillan, Joan Edwards and Kitty Flitsch.
He is survived by his wife, Winifred Horgan-Fitzgerald; children, Lynn O’Donnell (Charlie), Patricia Scanlon (George), Joan Thompson (Gary), Kevin Fitzgerald (Liz) and Karen Potter (Brian); 17 grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. A funeral mass took place at St. Francis de Sales Church, Belle Harbor. Interment followed at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
