‘Back 2 School’ Shopping Tips
With the back to school shopping season here, the NYPD Crime Prevention Unit wants you to keep safety in mind. With the rush to get the best sale – or to just finish up as quickly as possible – shoppers are often distracted and make simple, common mistakes.
Unattended handbags placed on strollers or shopping carts are easy targets. Keep your bag on your person and securely fastened closed at all times.
Handbags hung on chair backs in restaurants are quick scores for a thief. Never leave your bags where you can’t see them.
Bags or valuables left in parked vehicles are commonly stolen items. Remove electronics from plain view and lock packages in the trunk.
Cell phones are the most commonly stolen type of electronics – and they are stolen more often than currency.
Remain alert when using your device, keep it in your possession at all times, and remember to activate all the security features your device has to offer (pin lock, find my iPhone etc.).
Remain alert, be aware – if you see suspicious activity say something!
Contact the police and security immediately. Now enjoy what is left of the summer!
