Jamaica Bay Softball League Week 7 Recap

By Matt Conklin

So week 7 of the Jamaica Bay Softball League has gone out like the tide. next week is position week and here is how it looks: Field 1 at 9:45 a.m. will have the Mud Sharks vs. Daggers. On Field 2 is the Grassy’s vs. No-Shows at 11:45. The number one team bungalow takes on the Cyclones and the number two Orioles vs. the Brewers.

Now for a recap of the week. It was the home run hitting Cyclones defeating the Orange-less Orioles for their first win in franchise history. It was a combination of Sean/Jim Higgins and Chris DJ hitting their first home runs in the JBSL. Congrats to you both.

Now i was told by a Orange Bird that there were a couple of girls playing for the Orioles and they played very well. Word on the street is if they can do a line up and mark the book. Sean O’Connell might be voted out as skipper. Only time will tell. It was the Grassy Pt. mustache boys defeating the Bungalow short shorts Gents. There was alot riding on that game because the loser had to shave their mustache before the ride began.

It was a close game until Timmy I. threw the ball into the outfield that cleared the bases. Kudos to kevin harnisher for finally after 20 years making his fake throw work. Then came the beating of a life time with the undefeated Mud Sharks beating down the cellar dweller Brewers.

Mick Falcone and his team only made it to the sixth inning and luckily for them, otherwise the winning team might have broken an 100 runs. But it was clutch hitting and flawless defense by Terry McCarthy that was too much for the Brewers. The Daggers smacked around the No- Shows for a couple of innings for the win. Meatball’s knuckle ball pitching and Steve’s ballerina catches were all the Daggers needed for the easy win against Doonan and his bar-jumpers.

The JSBL is coming to the end of the season shortly and I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who had a part in this league. A big thank you goes to all the fans who come out every week in the extreme heat August 17 is All-Star game at BCAC Field under the lights. The playoffs will take place august 18 or August 25 and it will depend on the weather. Thank you all and good luck.
