Our Transit Not As Bad

Dear Editor,

Don’t ever complain again about the New York subways. I’ve just returned from Washington, DC and took two rides on their Metro. Lovely stations and nice trains but the cost and service are horrendous. Two round trips from

Gaithersberg to mid-DC and the cost was approximately $25, that’s right, $25. Along with that cost you had entrance machines that didn’t work (they took your ticket but wouldn’t open to let you through), and at least five escalators that didn’t work. The one thing they had was surly clerks who would help you with their ticket machines (no buying tickets from a clerk) and you needed a Harvard degree to understand the machines; I’ll take New York anytime.
