About My Husband

Dear Editor,

My husband was “Tommy the Tailor” who worked in Belle Harbor for at least 30 years and was well known and liked.

He died on August 10, 1978 and I’m writing this letter because my daughter saw entries on Facebook this month about it. It was very negative and it compromised our memories of him.

I want to set the record straight for him and for my three daughters, one of whom is handicapped.

The discussion on Facebook said that my husband was gay and that he committed suicide. He wasn’t gay, and he died at home from lung cancer – which he had been battling for six months.

My husband loved his job and his family. And his memory will always be cherished by everyone who knew him.
