Runners Celebrate Graybeards Run

It was a beautiful night last Friday for the 10th Annual Graybeards Family Run. Everyone enjoyed a fun evening in the St. Francis schoolyard, after nearly 400 runners took part in the various races.

The children took over Rockaway Beach Boulevard with different ages running various distances in a sprint to the finish line.

Tommy Ryan broke the tape for the Special Olympians in their inspiring run. The races continued with the One Mile Run. CJ Gallagher was first in 6:28 while Casey O’Shaughnessy was first female in 6:56. The 5K race once again featured a strong pack of runners in the 16-20 category. Cathedral Prep’s Connor Gallagher defended his title in 17:09. Xavier’s Jimmy Buckley was second in 17:46 and Patrick Goldberg of Archbishop Molloy followed in 17:55. Emily Carlton was a first time winner on the Women’s side with Lauren Koester placing second and Martha Diesslin finishing third.

CJ Gallagher won the 5K run CJ Gallagher won the 5K run A veteran Graybeard Grill Crew kept the hamburgers and hot dogs coming while Billy Egan manned the beverage station and the kids kept busy with lots of fun rides. Former NBA Star Sam Worthen conducted a basketball clinic in conjunction with Graybeards Rudy Johnson and Marty McManus. The Gray Riders played an energetic set of classic and indie rock as the soundtrack for the evening. The Awards Ceremony and raffles concluded the night.

Race Directors Keith Goldberg and Joe Featherston would like to thank all the runners and spectators, Msgr. Brown and the St. Francis de Sales staff, Jill Weber and NYC Parks, P.O.
