Regarding Principal Munro

Dear Editor,

This email is in response to a recent New York Daily News regarding Waterside School for Leadership, Rockaway Park, principal Ms. Linda T. Munro. It was with great dismay that I read that article in the NY Daily News. In that article it falsely stated that Ms. Munro was mismanaging school funds and was bullying the children and staff. The whole article was filled with lies.

My daughter just graduated from the school in June of this year and I have witnessed nothing but professionalism and care for those children. She treats those kids like her own and she wants nothing more than for all of them to succeed. She works long hours, you will even find her in the building till 8:00 at night sometimes, she even comes in on weekends, she will do whatever it takes to help the kids. I also read in the newspaper that she was accused of mismanaging school funds and that a particular parent was upset because her son could not go on the school trip and demanded her money back.

If that parent had attended even one of the parent teacher meetings she would have known that the school trip to Washington was not included in the senior dues.

The whole trip to Washington was paid for by the school, not out of the graduates’ senior dues.

The fact that the NY Daily News ran that article on one woman’s opinion and did not seek anyone else’s opinion regarding Ms. Munro’s leadership was disgusting.

By running that article because a parent was “ticked off” could have destroyed everything that Ms. Munro has worked so hard to achieve, and that is a crying shame.

The Daily News should be held accountable for trying to slander a member of the community without substantial evidence. I have since not bought the Daily News and I will not buy that newspaper again until I see an article recanting all the slander that they wrote.

Ms. Munro is a great principal and great member of the Rockaway community. She is trying her darnedest against seemingly impossible odds to better your children and your community.

Take a minute and think about this community and how the school was before she came. According to the info I have on the old Seaside School it was rated an “F” and here comes Ms. Munro trying to better the school and the community for future generations, and all of that was almost destroyed because someone got upset about their kid and money. Ms. Munro is thinking about the future of your children, she is a great principal and I am pleased that my daughter was able to witness such a great leader as Ms. Munro. In conclusion, Ms. Munro is a great principal and leader and any child would be the better for attending Waterside School for Leadership. I am so glad my daughter did.

Thanks Ms. Munro, you rock!!!!!
