St. Francis Summer Classic On The Hardcourt

The 2012 St. Francis Summer Classic is rapidly moving along as Mother Nature has been generally kind. The action has heated up the past two weeks with the final week of regular season play scheduled this coming week. Three divisions share the 5:45 p.m. time slot Monday through Wednesday.

The second grade division includes six teams this year and will run through August 8. The coaches are: Matt Courtney and Rob Tyne-R. Tyne Painting, Dom Maiorano-Ridgewood Savings Bank, Rob Ostrander-Laurice Keating Real Estate, Matt Glynn- Adams & Company, Nancy Stamos- Magic, and Moira Mullen-It’s All Good Tees. Six teams also take the floor in the Girls Grammar Junior division: John Moran-Hellman Electric, Matt Courtney and Jamie Agoglia-RAM Abstract, Terry Williams-Mullin Basketball Camp, Bill Erhard-Ludwig’s Sand-Witches, Duke and Grace Leahy- Flynn & Flynn, and John Carlin-Betty Boops.

In the Boys Grammar Junior division, the coaches of the eight teams are Joe Featherston-Plum Tomatoes, Mike Duffy-www.Pro1TireService, Richie Mills-Buckley’s, John McCann-Belle Harbor Yacht Club, Jim Tuohy- McManus Mechanical, Terry Greene and Fred Cornish-The Greene Machine, Chris O’Keefe-Coastal Real Estate, and Jeff Coletta-VRCTax.com.

The older players are scheduled at 7:00 and 8:15 p.m. The Boys Grammar Middle utilizes Court 4. The coaches are: Terrence Mullin-Breen Electric, Anthony Markle-Carvel, John Mullally Blue Bear, Guenter Skammel-Kill, Wood, Ace & Mann, Rich Savastano- NY Surf School, Marty Andresen-Rockaway Little League, Jim Moriarty- T.Moriarty & Son, Ryan Hoffman and Luke Gersh-The Wave, Kevin Murphy and Rob Ostrander-Walsh Management.

Senior play is on Court 3 guided by: Mary Gallagher-Walsh Properties, Mike Duffy-265 Entertainment, Erin Blum-Coastal Real Estate, Loretta Courtney and Kelli Donohue-Rockaway W.I.S.H., and Paige Whelan- Belle Harbor Breezy Point Physical Therapy.

Boys Grammar Senior is on Court 1 and the coaches are: Paul Edwards- Denis S. O’Connor, John Strehle and Jimmy Buckley-Kennedy’s Restaurant, John Glynn-Curran’s Superior Meats, Jim Boyhan and Duke McCabe-Zella Lane Racers, Joe Morelli-The Storage Place, Jack Bender-Cyberzone, Peter Stathis and Rob Ostrander-Boarders Surf Shop, and Brian Bagley-Melons.

The Boys High School division on Court 2 completes the Monday- Wednesday line-up outside, with a slew of veteran coaches at the helm: Joe Courtney and John Ronayne-Total Office Planning, Greg Hearn and George Brennan-J & E Industries, Joe McManus- JG Electrical Installations, Rich George Ameritag, Jack Gordon- Schilling’s POD’s, Bobby Bruns-Graybeards, Ryan Woerner-BRS Bullets, Steve Borhi-Orangemen, and Joe Kenel-Grayridersband.com.

The Men’s Open League takes over the schoolyard on Thursdays with the recently added Court 4 division added to the mix. The Women’s Open plays Monday and Tuesday nights in the gym.

The Graybeards have been the Thursday night gym residents and completed their season with the championships of the Young Gun and Legend divisions on Thursday, July 26. The Girls High School division will begin in the gym on Wednesday, August 1. Standings through July 20 are below. There are no standings in the 5:45 p.m. divisions.
