James Jenkins, a longtime Rockaway resident, died July 8.
Jenkins was born in Brunson, South Carolina on October 26, 1926. He lived in Rockaway for more than 20 years and was a barber. Jenkins served in the U.S. Army in 1944.
He is survived by his children, Morris Jenkins, Dorothy Jenkins. Bonita Farley and James Jenkins Jr.; sister, Alma Ritter; niece, Barbara Dyce; daughtersin law, Vera Jenkins and Brunilda Jenkins; grandchildren, Kaseam Jenkins, Jamal Jenkins, Kali Jenkins, Vasthi Jenkins, Quonesha Haynes, Ashlie Haynes, Myasia Farley Jayden Jenkins, and Janiya Jenkins; seven great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters; two great-nieces; Esteen Jenkins; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral arrangements and service were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. Interment took place at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
