Mothers-to-be gathered at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital’s “Largest Baby Shower in Far Rockaway” held on Wednesday, June 20. Mothers received a gift basket of baby items and a $100 gift card. St. John’s Episcopal Hospital held the “Largest Baby Shower in Far Rockaway,” as it was billed, on Wednesday, June 20.
Thirty mothers-to-be in their last trimester and patients of St. John’s Prenatal Care Center were randomly chosen to be invited to the shower. Held in the Hospital’s cafeteria, the work-a-day lunch room was transformed into a pink and blue baby shower-world of balloons, storks and teddy bears. Each mother-tobe received a huge laundry basket chock-full of receiving blankets, onesies, stuffed animals and more, as well as a $100 Babies R Us gift certificate.
“It was a dream basket,” Shamika Simmons said, who is expecting twins in August. “The basket was full of diapers, baby clothing of all sizes, powder, wipes and everything a baby could need,” she added.

The event was generously supported by St. John’s staff, Episcopal Church Women, Ministry in Action, Congregations in the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island, Episcopal Women’s Commission, Prayer Shawl’s Ministry, and Healthfirst, as well as community donors.
