Photos by Miriam Rosenberg The Rockaway Youth Task Force led a cleanup on Beach 54 Street last Friday evening. Tackling what the group called an “often neglected area in our community” they were joined by Assemblyman Phillip Goldfeder (who stepped out of his district to give support to the RYTF), former congressional candidate Mike Scala, and City Council candidate Jacques Leandre. According to RYTF president Milan Taylor, Assemblywoman Michele Titus committed to taking part in the July 6 cleanup. However, she did not show up.

Bags of debris filled up as the cleanup commenced on the corner of Beach 54 Street. Bags of debris filled up as the cleanup commenced on the corner of Beach 54 Street.

Above, it was an all-out group effort to clean the area next to the Arverne Library in front of 334 Beach 54 Street. At the back of that crowd is Assemblyman Goldfeder. Left, a lot of weeding needed to be done near the gate around the abandoned stores on the corner of Beach 54 Street and Beach Channel Drive.
