RTC Will Soon Bid 'Bye Bye' To Birdie

Last night marked the start of the final set of performances in the run of the Rockaway Theatre Company’s colorful production of the Great American musical, “Bye Bye Birdie” at Fort Tilden.

The show, which features a charming score by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams, has played to packed audiences for the past two weekends.

Director John Gilleece says he is quite pleased with the overall production.

“It has been a pleasure to work with such a great bunch of talented teenagers,” Gilleece said of the production. “Bye Bye Birdie” is a fun, lighthearted musical, which revolves around a fictional “Elvis-like” character, hilariously played by the inimitable Frank Caiati.

There are actually two different casts performing the show. The Peacock cast, which includes Chazmond Peacock, Luisa Boyaggi, Leslie Ross, Janet Brady, Caitlin Byrne, Nick Tsatsis and Alex Stabiner, takes to the stage for the final time tonight at 8 p.m.

The Panepinto cast, which includes John Panepinto, Najat Arkadan, Eileen Farrell, Jodee Timpone, Jacquie Carauana, Bobby Kawecki and Harry Gonzalez, will close out the run with performances on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Whichever performance you decide to attend, you are most definitely in for a treat.

However, it would be a mistake to count on tickets being available at the box office since only a handful are still available for each performance at the time this article goes to press. If you do not call the RTC hotline at 718-374- 6400 or visit www.rockaway-theatrecompany.org and secure your seats immediately your opportunity to see Birdie will fly away before you know it.
