Fairfield University Cross Country Head Coach John Sagnelli recently announced his seven-member Class of 2016. Three men and four women will be joining the Stags in the fall.
The Stags will add Nick Carapezza (Mahwah, N.J.), Dan DeBlock (West Milford, N.J.) and Frank Segreto (Oakdale, N.Y.), to the men’s roster while Nora Garrity (Springfield, Mass.), Deirdre Simms (Stoughton, Mass.), Allie Thoms (New Fairfield, Conn.) and Kathleen Woods (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) will join the women’s team.
“We’ve added seven talented student-athletes that will help the program continue to flourish over the next four seasons,” Sagnelli said. “I’m very pleased to welcome them in the fall and look forward to watching them develop.”
Woods was a three-time state qualifier for Archbishop Molloy and a threetime CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Cross Country Champion. The four-time team MVP graduated from Molloy with the program records in cross country, the mile, the steeplechase, the 4x800, the 4x1600, the DMR, and the SMR. She runs a 19:32 5K and a 5:14 in the 1600m.
The Fairfield University men’s cross country took fourth at the 2011 MAAC Championships and third at the IC4A Championships while the women’s cross country team placed sixth at the MAAC Championships.
