BCAC Shamrocks Win Murray Memorial Basketball Tournament

The Shamrocks 5th grade boys team traveled to Msgr. McClancy High School in East Elmhurst on Saturday, June 30 to play their final AAU tournament of the 2012 season.

This tournament had a special meaning to coaches Hofmann and Henglein who both played varsity basketball at Msgr. McClancy for Coach Don Kent. Coach Hofmann was on Coach Kent’s first team at McClancy back in 1982-83 season. This tournament also had a special meaning to the players. They were playing in memory of Dominic A. Murray, a former Msgr. McClancy H.S. and Farmingdale State University basketball player who died tragically before his freshman year.

The Shamrocks played Brooklyn’s No Limits and won in overtime 51-48 with only 7 players. The boys were honored to have Msgr. McClancy H.S. varsity basketball coach, legendary Don Kent, be Coach Billy Hofmann’s assistant for the day. The Shamrocks traveled to Farmingdale State University on Sunday, July 1 to play in the championship game against Corpus Christ at 12 noon. The Shamrocks won 37-34 with only 6 players. Their thanks go to interim coach Billy Thurlow for guiding them to victory in a tight game.

The BCAC Shamrocks finished their AAU season 14-14. They traveled all over Metro New York and also played in the Rhode Island Breaker Tournament. The team consisted of the following 12 players: Ian Thurlow, Timmy Moran, Jimmy Corrigan, Bryan Bostwick, Kevin Moriarty, Michael Lynch, Shawn Cavanagh, Michael Henglein, Jomonni Morris, Tyleek Sharpe, Liam Malsy, and John Baroudos.

The coaching staff consisted of

Head Coach Billy Hofmann, Asst.

Coaches Frank Henglein, Brendan

Moriarty, and Billy Thurlow.

Great Season Shamrocks !
