Beach Flix Draws Hundreds To Boardwalk
The Rockaway Civic Association (RCA) sinks its teeth into Summer Fun with a nighttime screening of the classic movie “Jaws” on Thursday, June 28. The screening was the second film shown in the ongoing Beach Flix film series (www.beachflix.com) which promises to bring blockbuster entertainment to our beaches all season long.
The event included entertainment provided by local resident Eddy Pastore, aka DJ EdeBear, who set up shop across from the popular Rippers concession stand and wooed the crowd with a combination of popular beach hits and the occasional karaoke serenade by talented beachgoers. By the time dusk settled in, the audience awaiting the screening of “Jaws” had swelled to over 200 festive spectators who staked out their spots on the sand and eagerly anticipated the well known theme music from the malevolent shark film. Spectators sat glued from start to finish with applause heard during the movie’s ending.
Rockaway Civic Association president, Noreen Ellis, encourages individuals to join the association. Increasing the membership of the Rockaway Civic Association will ensure the future survival of Beach Flix, help them finish painting the baywall and conduct more community based events. A link to their membership application can be found on the Beach Flix website home page.
The Beach Flix summer film series will continue throughout the season with the next two films scheduled for Thursday, July 12 at Beach 96 Street, showing “Lords of Dogtown,” and Thursday, July 26 at Beach 118 Street - showing “Transformers.” In the event weather conditions prevent the films from being shown, the films have weather dates posted along with the entire Beach Flix schedule on the series website: www.beachflix.com
