If you were wondering if we’re still collecting (and sharing) ideas — we are. We get them on the streets, through email and through our website ideasimprov.com. The whole wacky nature of our quest caught the attention of New Zealand’s most popular TV show and they interviewed us in their Manhattan studio. And rumor has it some major publication (almost on par with The Wave) will do a profile on us soon. We also have this idea that we’re working on and hope Eric Ulrich and/or Phil Goldfeder will help us with it. But we can’t reveal it yet. Maybe Eric and Phil will be so curious they’ll get in touch with us. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, here are some ideas we’ve collected recently:
Develop some sort of system so that GPS devices can detect available parking spots. This would save much wasted time with people searching up and down every beach block in Rockaway Park for spots that don’t exist. Tommy, Rockaway Park.
Elect a peninsula-wide “Mayor.” This position would be a cheerleader and advocate for the whole peninsula. He’d speak with one voice. His own. He’d be elected every two years. If people didn’t like his message they could vote him or her out. We need a person who has no ambition other than to promote Rockaway’s interests. John, Belle Harbor
Create a City-wide Website that allows homeowners to rent out parking spots in their driveway for the day, weekend, week or month. Fees could either be fixed by the owner or open for auction. Steven, Rockaway Beach
Allow the safe and reasonable use of kayaks and other human powered floatation devices (for recreation and safety) along the entire shoreline of Rockaway (currently they are not permitted on City or Federal beaches). Matt, Rockaway Beach
The Wave should print the comments that online readers have posted to recent articles. Susan, Neponsit
My idea is to support businesses that don’t rip you off. I’m all for the concessions on the boardwalk but six dollars for a beer is a bad idea! PK, Belle Harbor.
There should be some kind of Rockaway texting or phone alert to remind you of events. If you sign up for it you’ll get updates or reminders about things like the Tribute Park fundraiser or the Rockaway Theater shows or events on the beach. I read things in The Wave and then I forget. There should be a reminder service! Now that’s a good idea! Patty, Rockaway Park.
