Par Tee Golf Annouces GuysAnd Dolls Tournament
When you stop to think about it, did you ever notice that it’s a lot easier to get up at 6:00 a.m. to play golf than at 10:00 a.m. to mow the yard or go to church?
This past week an intrepid group of ten braved the heat to play golf at Riis Park. This group included: Kate Hanratty, Barbara Caramelli, Jane Donnelly Higgins, Theresa McKeever, Dorothy Slovak, Kathy Hayden, Peg Ansbro, Carol Higgins, Lorraine Pierson and Pam Armour (79). Peg Ansbro scored 65! In the seventies were: Pam Armour (72), Jane Donnelly Higgins (73), Barbara Caramelli (78), and Lorraine Pierson (79).
Congratulations to our president, Jane Donnelly Higgins, who finished with two chip-in birdies on holes 8 and 17. Pam Armour obtained a chip-in birdie on hole 18.
And last week Jane Donnelly Higgins had a birdie on hole 14! After play, we retreated back to the Catholic Club where Margaret Bambury had coffee and buns ready and, most importantly, the air conditioner was turned to high! Jane Donnelly Higgins reported on upcoming events …especially the Guys and Dolls Tournament which will be held on Thursday, July 26 at Riis Park. So start getting your foursomes together! This year play will begin at 3:30 and after play the party begins at the Catholic Club!!
Another important event was mentioned by Lorraine Pierson and involves the reading of the Declaration of Independence on Wednesday, July 4th, at the ball field at 10 a.m. Bring your friends, neighbors, children, flags and, of course, a chair or blanket. Other official dates to remember: August 16 is the last day of play. The tournament dates are August 23 and August 30 (rain date – September 6) and the closing luncheon will be at Russo’s on the Bay on Thursday, September 13.
No wonder some women don’t get this crazy game of golf ... we just need to get the lingo first …then everything else will fall in place: Caddy …2 women talking about a third who isn’t there to defend herself; Chipping …Time to get our nails done; Double Bogie …“Casablanca” followed by “African Queen”; Fairway … Splitting the bill when the girls go to lunch; Good Lie …weight on our drive’s license; Greens …Lunch we eat when we’d really like a cheeseburger; Hole-In- One ... Time to get new pantyhose; Iron …What guys need to learn to do their own shirts; Shaft …you watch the kids while he gets to go golfing; Water Hazard …giving the kids too much to drink before a road trip; Wedge ... bathing suit is too tight; Driver …getting the kids to all their activities; Sand Trap …kids shoes;
Have a great week!
