Romaine Rogers, a longtime Rockaway resident, died June 7.
Rogers was born in Wilson, North Carolina on December 10, 1935. She worked as a housekeeper who lived in Rockaway for more than 30 years. Rogers was also a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Arverne.
Rogers was preceded in death by her husband, Lawyer Rogers; sister, Martha Delores Sutton; and son, Jeffrey Lamont Rogers.
She is survived by her children, Brenda Sutton, Wanda Montgomery (Arnold), Ronald Rogers, Johnny Rogers, Pamela Rogers, Sharon Rogers, Jacqueline Rogers and Regina Wiley (David); grandchildren, Jerome, Venus and Nicole Sutton, Nakia Montgomery, Johnny Lawrence, Crystal Rogers, Darius Rogers and Sharonda Rogers; greatgrand children, Zenea, Ashley, D’Andre, Jerome, Jahmeek, Iyahna, Zohnny and Kathleen; aunt, Rose McCoy; lifetime family friend, Sister Maggie Miller and Connie Brockington; and a host of loving cousins in Washington, DC and North Carolina.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. A funeral mass took place at Macedonia Baptist Church, Arverne. Interment followed at Forest Green Park Cemetery, Morganville, New Jersey.
