The political season is once again upon us and although many volunteers are out collecting signatures that will allow our City Councilman, Eric Ulrich, to run in the September primary for NYS Senate, we are facing a more immediate call to action this June 26 when there will be a Republican primary for US Senate candidates.
Most of you reading my column know that our new Congressman, Bob Turner, ran and won the 9th Congressional District seat last September and was hoping to run again in the 9th CD.
However, that seat has been eliminated. He therefore has decided to run for US Senate against Kirsten Gillibrand and many believe that he has the ability and name recognition necessary to unseat her.
Gillibrand is the junior Senator from NY and there are presently three Republicans facing off in Tuesday’s primary, June 26.
The winner of Tuesday’s primary will be on the November ballot running against her. George Maragos is the Nassau County Comptroller, Wendy Long will be running on the Conservative Line, and Bob Turner is our current US Congressman in the 9th CD, which is being eliminated.
I personally know Bob Turner and believe that he can, with your help, win this primary on Tuesday and go on to win the Senatorial race in November.
Bob Turner needs every registered Republican voter out this Tuesday, June 26, to cast his or her vote. But as this is a statewide election, I am asking you to contact Republicans that you know throughout NY State, and ask them to cast their ballot for Bob Turner as well. He cannot win this primary without your help and so please do not wait, contact your spheres of influence now, so that they will vote on June 26. The expected turnout is very low, as it is the end of the school year, beginning the summer season and vacations, so every vote counts very heavily. Your vote, along with those you influence, will truly make a difference.
As June comes to a close and we approach July 4th, I would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy 4th of July. Make sure to fly your flags high and give thanks to all our servicemen and women who give of themselves to keep us secure.
Once again, the Graybeards on the Rockaway Peninsula will be hosting the Wounded Warriors on the weekend of July 12.
It is our community giving back to those who have given so very much.
Please try to come out and support them in whatever way you can.
