An unidentified man, fleeing the police, tried to jump to the roof of this self-storage facility and died. A 22-year-old still-unidentified Hispanic man died when he plunged from the subway elevated structure at Beach 88 Street at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, following what police say was the robbery of a teen on the subway at Beach 105 Street.

Official police sources say that the 15-year-old teen who was assaulted and robbed by a group of men on the subway platform was able to provide responding cops with a description of his assailants. Transit officers and cops from the 100 Precinct started a canvass of the trains heading for Far Rockaway.

At Beach 90, they say, they spotted a stopped train with four men who looked like those described by the teen who was assaulted and robbed.

One of the group saw the cops approaching the stopped train. He suddenly bolted, scaling the fence on the edge of the platform and jumping, apparently aiming for the roof of the self-storage facility on Beach 88 Street and the Freeway. Police say he missed the building and died on the street.

The man was transported to the trauma center at Jamaica Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival, sources say.

Police say they are investigating the death, and they are withholding the identification of the man pending notification to his next of kin.
