World Champion Pepper Steppers

Stan’s Pepper Steppers earned the highest award in freestyle, plus Stan’s Jr. Pepper Steppers and Mrs. Brown Jumpers won two world championship at the 39th Annual World Invitational Double Dutch Championships held at the Civic Center in Sumter, South Carolina on June 16.

The Pepper Steppers senior team of Laa’neisha Jones, Peter Alvarez, Katherine Rocha, Robeshia Davis, Tyesha Arnette, and Nadine Harrison won awards for the highest freestyle (tricks in the ropes) performance in the singles and doubles events. Rocha and Harrison just graduated from college this past May and the others are in pursuit of their bachelor’s degree.

The fourth grade team from Mrs. Brown’s Jumpers won the title as world champions in the singles and doubles events. Mrs. Brown’s Jumpers fifth grade team earned second place honors in the singles and third place in doubles.

The Pepper Steppers, representing Far Rockaway, and Mrs. Brown Jumpers from PS. 40 Sports and Arts Foundation in Brooklyn, demonstrated once again that hard world and dedication is the key to success. Both teams practice at the Sorrentino Recreation Center and at PS. 40.

The coaches for the team includes Stan Brown (Pepper Steppers), Linda Brown (Mrs. Brown’s Jumpers), Yatte Brown, Laa’neisha Jones, Peter Alvarez, Tyesha Arnette, Robeshia Davis and Nadine Harrison. Carol Walker is the team’s official. Paul Bowen is the video coordinator.

The teams would like to give special thanks to the parents and supporters of the jumpers, Chaleene Nash-manager and the staff of the Sorrentino Recreational Center, the City of New York Parks and Recreation Department, Lloyd Webber-Bey, Sports and Arts Foundation, Ulysses Williams, and the Far Rockaway community for their contributions and support.
