Little League’s Second Season Begins
Rockaway Little League concluded its 59th regular season on Monday. Playoffs have begun in the five competitive divisions. The post season will culminate next weekend with all titles decided on Championship Saturday. The 10-team Pee Wee Senior division has two conferences, Ocean and Bay. The Ram Title Orioles finished atop the Ocean division at 9-1, one-half game ahead of the Henry Myers Plumbing & Heating Jays. The Servpro Dodgers paced the Bay division with a 9-1-1 record, followed by the Conte’s Carpet Athletics. The PWS playoffs began last night with the Ocean “play-in” game, pitting the fifth seed Sands Point Physical Therapy Marlins against the fourth seed Ridgewood Savings Bank Cardinals. The Belle Harbor Yacht Club Pirates and NY Life Diamondbacks will “play-in” in the Bay division.
Minor Boys is also a two-conference division. The Graybeards Reds (7-2) topped the tight Ocean Conference while the Arverne By The Sea Cardinals (10- 1) were titans in the Bay Conference, finishing three games ahead of the Allstate Insurance Dodgers. The Ocean play-in game was last night. It pitted the fifth seed Harbor Light Pirates against the fourth seed Orlow Firm Giants.
In Major Boys, the Bartoli Chiropractic Rockies were the standard bearer, topping the division at 9-2. The Wave Publishing Orioles and Casino Auto Body Dodgers play tonight for the right to face the Rocks in the semi-finals. The second seed Camuto Group A’s (7-5) will battle the Brown’s Hardware Diamondbacks (5-5-1) in the other semifinal contest, tomorrow at 11:15 a.m. On the distaff side, there are two softball divisions competing in the second season. In Minor Girls, the El Caribe Caterers White Sox earned first place finishing an impressive 9-1-1. They open the playoffs tonight against the Rockaway Properties Orioles. Tomorrow morning, the evenly matched Walsh Properties Dodgers and Dr. John’s Destroyers Reds face off in the other semi-final at 11:15 a.m.
In Major Girls, the Friends of Phil Goldfeder Cardinals edged the VIP Fire Sprinklers Orioles to grab first place and, more importantly, earn a first round bye. The O’s must now face the Knights of Columbus Marlins in a one-game elimination contest Saturday morning at 9:00. The winner will advance to the threegame championship series against the rested Redbirds, beginning Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Rockaway Little League’s annual trip to the Cyclones will be June 29, the night before Championship Saturday. Every person will receive a free Cyclones cap. Kids can go on the field before the game. NY Kidstime, which sponsors the Twins t-ball team, is throwing a party to celebrate a successful season in which every team remained undefeated and every player maintained a perfect 1.000 batting average. The party is set for Field 1 in Ft. Tilden on June 23 at 10:00 a.m.. NY Kidstime will provide rides for the kids, but parents may bring food and/or drinks as well. Special thanks go out to coaches Mike Lomborg and TJ Meade who served pizza and ices during the President’s Cup party.
