Maria ‘Tatin’ Power

Principal

Maria “Tatin” Power, a longtime Rockaway resident, died June 10.

Power was born in Gurabo, Puerto Rico. She was a Rockaway resident for 52 years while working as the principal and bilingual education pioneer for Roberto Clemente PS 13 Elementary School. She was also a member of Christ Community Church.

Power was preceded in death by her brothers, Juan Pablo and Cano; and sisters, Blanca and Haydee. She is survived by her husband, Edward; sons, Edward Jr. (Maryellen) and John Patrick; daughter, Susan; sisters, Norma Norat and Celeste Lopez; grandchildren, EJ, Sheliah, Brenden and Shane; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. A funeral mass took place at Christ Community Church, Rockaway Point. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
