Gertrude Thypin Oltchick
Gertrude Thypin Oltchick, 96, a longtime Rockaway resident, died June 6.
Oltchick was born in Brooklyn, New York. She was a Rockaway resident for more than 60 years. She and her brother Dave Thypin were long time partners in Thypin Steel Co., founded in 1910 by their father Abraham. After retiring at age 87, she became very involved in her community of Rockaway Beach, as an active member of Temple Beth El and a volunteer and champion fundraiser for the former Peninsula Hospital Center.
Oltchick was preceded in death by her brother, David Typin. She is survived by her children, Stuart and Judi Oltchick, Arlene and Larry Gilbert, and Ellen and Howard Deixler; grandchildren, Amy, Peter and Amanda, Eric and Assunta, Jay, Avi, and Ben; and greatgrandchildren, Marinda, Katherine, Zoe, and Andrew.
Donations may be made in her memory to The Thypin Oltchick Institute for Women’s Entrepreneurship at FEGS. Funeral services took place at Riverside Memorial Chapel, New York, New York.
