What About Our Park?

Dear Editor,

The new park that was built on Beach 9 to Beach 17 Street is still fenced in and not open to the public. The only little section opened is the skateboard and basketball court on Beach 12. Our section on Beach 14 to Beach 17 has the park benches and tables that would enable people to have picnics. We the public are unable to use the renovated park. We were told it would open on the Friday before Memorial Day. But lo and behold, it is still closed and the Parks Department doesn’t know when it will be open.

I guess the residents down in Far Rockaway are not important enough to even have a new park to enjoy.

The strip used on Beach 17 to walk to the ocean has disappeared. It’s covered with sand and it looks like a hill on top of a valley. And it’s an accident waiting to happen.

We complained to the Parks Department and got no response from them. This strip was for the disabled and now they can’t even use it. It needs to be cleaned and replaced.
