The first Rockaway Bicycle Parade was a fantastic and beautiful event. It was organized and coordinated by the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance, with special acknowledgement to Jeanne DuPont and Mark Hofflacker for their year-long efforts in outreach and promotion. The parade, in actuality, began in Riis Park with close to a hundred entrants by my estimate, and at least double that in spectators and supporters. For the record, it then left the park and, as advertised but unfortunately not reported, the humanpowered vehicles proceeded through Neponsit and Belle Harbor on Rockaway Beach Boulevard down to Beach 126 Street. At this point, in coordination with NYC De-partment of Parks and Recreation, we continued down the boardwalk all the way to the Beach 97 Street concession stands, in glorious colorful procession. It was truly a unique and memorable parade on a beautiful spring day. And it set a bright new precedent for years to come.
Thank you, Rockaway.
