First Summer Drowning Claims Young Teen

A teenage boy drowned off the shores of Beach 19 Street on Tuesday afternoon when he and a friend were swimming in the choppy waters under rain and moderate winds. Akeem Craig, 14, of Jamaica was pulled under as his friend attempted to save him, but to no avail. FDNY, EMS, NYPD emergency crews, including a helicopter search and FDNY divers, launched a massive search in the rain for the boy who was eventually found 40 minutes later and rushed to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
