Turner Praises WTC First Responders
Congressman Bob Turner met with and thanked World Trade Center first responders and recovery workers at a special “Thank You Tribute” marking the 10th anniversary of the formal end of the recovery operations at the National 9/11 Memorial.
“Every New Yorker has a personal relationship to that fateful day, and I am no different. My son-in-law, Tom Dolan, was an FDNY Lieutenant at the time. He and his fellow firefighters commandeered a bus and then ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel with all of their equipment. They made it there right after the second tower fell and we didn’t hear from him until 7:30 that night. He worked on the site for the next seven months. On a day when many were crippled by shock and overcome with emotion and anxiety, our first responders and recovery workers didn’t flinch, they never faltered. They acted swiftly and their quick action made the difference for so many. There is not enough praise in the world to honor their tireless efforts and sacrifice amidst exceedingly dangerous conditions. This ceremony serves as a small token of our city’s appreciation for this sacrifice and I am proud to stand with these exceptional New Yorkers.
