Broad Channel Adopt-A-Tree Beautifies CBB
The skies were bright over Broad Channel as the Civic Association’s Beautification Committee sponsored an Adopt- A-Tree event on Saturday, May 19 along Cross Bay Boulevard. Friends, neighbors and families came out armed with rakes, spades and brooms to trim, spruce up and beautify their chosen spot. Also on hand were the Girl Scouts, both adult members and kids from the Broad Channel Athletic Club, as well as members from the Civic Association. The Boy Scouts added to the event by placing American flags all along the Boulevard.
The BC Beautification Committee, supported by a grant from the Citizens Committee of New York and the Civic Association, distributed flowers, water and supplies along with balloons and American flags to all who joined in. Typical of the spirit of Channelites, participation and enthusiasm equals great success. More than 60 community members came out to support the event. In total, 39 tree beds were planted and several new tree pit boxes and tree guards were put in place.
