Kosmos Poseidon Wins Final Soccer Game For 2012
The team won their divisional championship on the last day of the season with a record of 7-1. Poseidon dominated possession with numerous scoring opportunities culminating in goals from Thomas McGinn, Sean Hennessy (while in goal), Dean Hanrahan and Corey Rodman.
This was another excellent team effort with the usual outstanding defense led by Jason Moore, Brian McGinn, Luca D’Ambrosio and Ryan Gibson. The defense did not allow the opponent many scoring opportunities. Thomas McGinn and John Curte helped control the midfield while Timmy McEnroe, Shawn O’Keefe, Chris McElhinney and Kyle Duffy kept the pressure, maintaining possession and making excellent passes.
This finishes a fantastic first season for these boys who have learned so much and utilized their skills. The team will be moving up a division and the future looks very bright.
The team played a spectacular City Cup semi-final game on Sunday against one of the top clubs in New York City holding them to a 1-1 draw in regulation time. The game went into overtime with the score remaining unchanged. The team lost on penalty kicks to an impressive opponent.
Some highlights of the game included spectacular goal keeping from Sean Hennessy in the first half and Chris McElhinney in the second half, as they were barraged with shots on goal. They each made fantastic fingertip saves keeping their team in the game. Corey Rodman showed his skill late in the first half busting through the defense and scoring off his left foot. This was an impressive showing for a first-year team against a much more experienced club.
