Golf Meditations: If you really want to get better at golf, go back and take it up at a much earlier age.

Nine intrepid golfers showed up last Thursday for a day that was cool and rainy. This did not stop Dolores McAleer from getting the best score of the day … she had a 69. Peg Ansbro had a 70, Barbara Caramelli scored a 71 and Ann Spillane finished with a 78! And Barbara Caramelli had the only birdie of the day on hole #12.

Actual calls received at a public golf course: Staff: Golf course, may I help you? Caller: What are your green fees? Staff: 38 dollars Caller: Does that include golf? Staff: Golf course, may I help you? Caller: Yes, I need to get some information from you. Staff: First, is this your correct phone number? Staff: Golf course, may I help you? Caller: Yes, my husband just called me on his cell phone and told me he’s on the 15th hole. How many holes does he have to play before he gets to the 18th? Staff: Golf course, may I help you? Caller: Yes, do you have a driving range there? Staff: Yes. Caller: How much for a large bucket? Staff: Four dollars Caller: Does that include the balls?

USGA Rule for Seniors-Rule 1.a5: A ball sliced or hooked into the rough shall be lifted and placed on the Fairway at a point equal to the distance it carried or rolled into the Rough with no penalty. The senior should not be penalized for tall grass which ground keepers failed to mow.
