Breezy Pointers Catch View Of Ships
News Events/Travel Editor/Host WNYX - TV Morning News • 12:00 noon on UHF Chs. 35 & 26 Monday - Friday

For those fortunate enough, it was a sight to see the array of ships that passed by the tip of Breezy Point on their way to New York Harbor. They knew with assurance THE FLEET WAS IN!

Boy! Was Kennedy’s on the Bay Restaurant hopping with music at the bar Memorial Day Sunday! 2,4-DA Show had everyone swinging to the beat of oldies music and the show couldn’t be better. More laughs, smiles and friendliness around the bar. Met Peggy Dunne who is married to Gerry Dunne, who plays guitar with 2,4-Da Show with partner, Richie Triolo, on the keys. They are from B”klyn and you can see them on You Tube or Google. I hope they come back often. They really liven up the place. And, talk about one journalist spotting another, Michael Redmond, a New York Times printer for many, many years, spotted me with notepad in hand. He was there with his wife, Maryann and Peggy Dunne who is married to Gerry Dunne of the band. Oh! And it was such a pleasant surprise to see Marilyn Higgins, who was my neighbor years and years ago. She looks wonderful and was at the bar with her friend, Buddy O’Neil who sings at the Century Club of the Catholic Club which meets every Wednesday. Their next big event is June 16 and Buddy is performing. Don’t miss it! There was a big celebration in the dining room. Sixty friends and family members of Ruth McRath were on hand to wish her 80 years young. And, she does look young for 80 years. Happy Birthday, Ruth and many more to come. Ruth is from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and she and her husband love Kennedy’s…..their roast pork dinner and clams casino are their favorites.

Let us not forget our sons and daughters of America who put their lives on the line in combat so that we may enjoy the freedoms of America. This annual fundraiser was held Sunday, Memorial weekend. Breezy Pointers packed the Sugar Bowl to attend the annual fund-raiser which was organized by Robert Crowley, Brian Quinn, Thom McCarthy and John Moran. It was a huge success with music by the Reda Shay Band. Bobby Crowley, of the band, played the saxophone extremely well, I heard, and all attendees enjoyed. What a fun way to remember and give back to those who sacrificed so much for so many of us.

My son, Kevin Matuozzi surprised me when he showed up in NYC for a business convention and still found time to take MOM for a pre-Mother’s Day luncheon. He also, before arriving in NYC, met with his close friends from Breezy Point: Richie Lenihan and Terry Williams for a few fun days in Atlantic City. Kevin lives in San Diego now with his wife, Julie and daughter, Beth, 13. His other daughter, Samantha, is in college. He sends his best wishes for a happy summer to all in Breezy.
