A still-unidentified man walked into the new Chase bank branch at Arverne by the Sea last Friday, passed a note indicating that he had a gun and walked away with an unspecified amount of cash, police officials say.

The man, in his 30s according to police, and wearing a Yankee hat and an orange contractor’s vest, walked into the new Chase branch at 68-20 Rockaway Beach Boulevard at about 10:23 a.m. on May 18.

He handed the teller a note that said he had a gun and would use it if she did not give him cash.

The gun was never seen, however, police say.

After getting the cash, the man calmly walked out of the bank and fled towards Beach 69 Street. Officials think he may have dumped the vest and jumped on the A Train line directly behind the bank.

Police called a Level One Mobilization, which brought cops from all over Southern Queens as well as specialized units such as ESU, Aviation and K-9.

A search of the area, including the subway line, had negative results.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Detectives from the Queens Major Case Squad are investigating. Anybody with information is urged go call the detectives at 718-276-3470 or the 100 Precinct Detective Squad at 718-318- 4266.
