Jose Luis Rivera

Painter

Jose Luis Rivera, a five-year Rockaway resident, died May 17.

Rivera was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico. He moved to Rockaway from Brooklyn, New York and worked as a union painter. Rivera served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 28 years. He was a member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades DC9 and Volunteer Rockaway Memorial Day Service Parade Committee.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Rodriguez Rivera; son, Jose Antonio Rivera; daughter, April Rivera Negron; brothers, Pedro Casiano, Jose Manuel Rivera and Angel Jimenez; sister, Gloria Jimenez and Wanda Rivera Lugo; grandchildren, Isabella Rose Rivera and Evangeline Lillian Rivera; and nine nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements and service were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. Interment took place at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
