Bumpy Mishaps

Dear Editor,

They have installed, “SPEED BUMPS,“ around the Beach 81 and Beach 83 Streets on Shore Front PARKWAY.

They are BLACK and you can’t see them. They are more like SPEED CURBS, because that’s what it feels like you hit going over them. It’s more dangerous to have them there than not, especially if an EMERGENCY vehicle is speeding to answer a call. I see there are already scrape marks on them from the bottom of cars. Today I actually saw a car leave the ground because she didn’t know they were there.

Going the other way, downtown, I slowed down to go over a bump, and almost got rear-ended because the person behind me didn’t know they were there. He swerved to avoid hitting me and almost hit two people. These are also going to create havoc with the snow plows, come winter.

I reported this to the Police and they also agree that these Speed bumps are unsafe. Shore Front is a “PARKWAY,“ NOT a side street where children might be playing. Please make the community aware of this very dangerous situation.

KEN ERICKSON
