On The Road With Jacob Riis

Part of the audience enjoying the show at the Peninsula Library. Part of the audience enjoying the show at the Peninsula Library. Bernie Feuer and Dan Guarino, (as Teddy Roosevelt), took the Jacob Riis Story on the road. On Sunday, May 6 Bernie and Teddy went to the Peninsula Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation where 40 residents enjoyed the show. Then on Saturday, May 12 the show came to the Peninsula Library where 22 Rockawayites also enjoyed the presentation. At both shows the audiences learned about Jacob Riis, had a chance to contrast pictures of the upper class “well to do’s” of the late 1880s with pictures of the poor tenement dwellers of those times that Jacob Riis took.

Teddy Roosevelt made appearances at both shows and told the audiences about his friendship with Jacob Riis. Then the audiences learned about and saw images of the glory days of Rockaway’s famed Jacob Riis Park. Both audiences found the show entertaining and educational.

Historian Bernie Feuer thanks Teddy Roosevelt (Dan Guarino) for coming to the Peninsula Library to talk about his friendship with Jacob Riis. Historian Bernie Feuer thanks Teddy Roosevelt (Dan Guarino) for coming to the Peninsula Library to talk about his friendship with Jacob Riis.
